Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, considerable delays are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the terminal as residual delays are managed.
