Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
