President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot Military Personnel to White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that educators desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and halt granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told a news show that she aimed to speak to the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” he informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
