The Actress States Mentioning Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she finds it inappropriate fitting to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions within the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Lawrence
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner commented, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, public figures do not make a difference in any way on voter decisions.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and explaining she realized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she stated that a Trump victory could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “because I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
The star was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was highlighted by the outcome.
“Another four years seems distinct,” said the actress regarding Trump’s presidency. “Since he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a recent parent who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. At a press conference for the film in Venice, she addressed the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by expressing that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be accepted to the children right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
The actor aimed to shift frustration about the situation to leaders rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she said, seen by observers as a reference to the recent commitment supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her role in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in the new film. Although Lynne Ramsay has disputed the plot being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to elements of her film narrative after the birth of her youngest child, soon after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a treatment called the prescription and I took it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed regarding the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the film while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.
“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
