The Reds Will Not Alter Attacking Style Despite Current Struggles, Declares Slot
Arne Slot has announced that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he will not abandon their offensive approach in search of a solution. The manager conceded that six losses in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Increasing Scrutiny Amid Tough Spell
Slot accepted the expectations were high before his rotated squad exited the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he maintained that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.
"Our views align," stated the Liverpool boss, whose side will meet Real Madrid in the Champions League and travel to Manchester City in the English top flight.
Squad Quality Continues Unquestioned
Liverpool's manager thinks his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the programme we are facing". He mentioned that the recent signings in players such as the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through injury, had left the club "in an excellent position for the near future and the years to come".
Team Cohesion Issues
When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "That question isn't constructive. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm making justifications. I can identify five or six reasons why we are not winning as much or losing as much as we do but, as I consistently state, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."
- No matter if I could come up with numerous reasons
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- In truth six losses from seven matches
Backline Performance
Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have allowed more significant openings from regular play this season than the Merseysiders (nineteen). The table-toppers, the North London club, have allowed just two. Yet the manager disputes the defense has been too vulnerable and claims there is no justification to sacrifice his attacking principles for a cautious system after ten matches without a goalless performance.
"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to change our playing style entirely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he said.
Particular Cases
"Against Manchester United, how many chances did we concede? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a attempt on goal. In every match we have played so far we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Definitely not. We do give away a somewhat more than last season but that has to do with us being trailing by a goal so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't think that our challenge is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we fail to convert the opportunities we generate."
