Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to create a TTRPG that explores the series' post-pandemic landscape. This initiative has been announced, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to begin in April of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, providing fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," states an official release.

Launch products will include a starter set, essential manuals, a GM screen, figurines, and various premium versions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was released in New York City, plunging the nation into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions rise, transforming the city into a warzone. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the players come in.

Work on the RPG has been in progress for approximately three years, and it is reportedly complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a pre-launch sales platform to access a wider audience, particularly in the United States. Production will start immediately following the campaign, with deliveries projected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

A preview at the game's rules confirms it employs 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and tactical style. Players leverage skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, usually from one to five d10s.

  • Instead of summing the total, players select a single “result die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then measured against a set challenge number.
  • Achieving a perfect 10 grants special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Engagements Emphasize Positioning and Awareness

Fights prioritize positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This system seems built to reward teamwork and smart positioning over simple statistics.

A Thematic Wound Mechanic

The way injuries is tracked adds a interesting narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their capabilities by lowering the size of their dice pool.

  1. At critical condition, an agent collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
  2. They can still move and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state seen in many shooter games.
  3. Any player knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking persistent effects like trauma or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Scenario

A free introductory rulebook is promised soon. It includes a pre-made starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group lead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an attack by the violent Rikers faction, who have taken over that Manhattan district. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be unveiled near the Kickstarter start date.
