Tributes Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones continue to honor the couple.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt prepared to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Adequate time has elapsed that I can now express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started spending more time together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, remarking that he cannot recall "any day without laughter".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Values that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Restricted
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to block the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the local authorities.
A legal directive issued a embargo on the files to restrict the public release of "all case details, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the probe.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the consequence of foul play, with a record citing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
After the killings, public personalities shared varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing provocative remarks that were met with immediate backlash by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his perspective to the critics last week. Talking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the remarks as "disappointing" and remarked they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an adviser should have stepped in when the decision to comment on the tragedy was made.
