UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a young woman harboring multiple personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, though additional clips show the main character navigating a desolate church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
